The different steps The portraits resemblance to the model is a basic duty to which I naturally commit myself. But if you wish to have a portrait painted, this means you want the resemblance to also express feelings. For this reason I suggest you first order an estimation rather than place a direct order. This estimate will list the portrait’s specifications (materials used, size, date of delivery, etc.), and will also create the opportunity to clearly define what you wish the portrait to express. 1st stage Chose a main photograph with the poise you like and which will be the basis for the portrait. If possible, accompany it with other photos of the same person taken from different angles; these will enable me to “understand” the model better. Choose well-exposed close-up photos of the model with good contrasts whether they are in colour or in black and white. If your photos have been taken with a digital camera, please send them to me directly by e-mail, but if this is not the case, you can either scan them or send them to me by post. In the latter case, the main photo’s format must be at least 18 X 24cm. 2nd stage Fill in the estimation request form providing detailed answers to all questions in order to clearly define the poise, layout and dominating atmosphere. Then send me the form and photos. 3rd stage If I have any additional questions in order to clarify what you wish this portrait to express, I will send a reply either by e-mail or telephone you. Finally, based on all this information I will establish estimation and send it to you by e-mail. 4th stage Return the signed estimate to me by post enclosing a down payment check for 30% of the final cost. As soon as your letter is received, count 2 weeks for a drawing or a watercolour and 5 weeks for an oil painting (drying time). 5th step Once the portrait is finished, I will send you a photograph of it by e-mail. At this point, you can indicate any minor alterations you consider necessary, if any. When you are satisfied let me know by e-mail and address me a check for the remaining sum by post. Your portrait will be sent within 48 hours.
